I get it and agree with most all of it - But I believe there is hope for those who want content to be king again...

Good point, Mr. David. My quick answer is: I've no idea how long the Former King, Content, will be off the throne. (And, again, I can't say this enough: Content is still key.)

Where the web's going long-term, as a platform, and what the audience's behaviors will be as they evolve symbiotically with that platform, I'll not dare posit.

In the short run, though, I believe there will be an ever increasing amount of information and activity, and that the feeling of "It's all too much" will continue to be matched by the opposite feeling of: "I want even more. And I want to get it faster. And I just want the stuff that I want, and not the irrelevant stuff. Oh, and I want it now, anytime, everywhere, blah-blah-blah.” ;-)

And that world, even if an interregnum, will continue to reward Utilities above everything else.

I think the never-ending quest for the killer app has resulted in the development of a ton of cool little tools. Like mitochondria, maybe one day they can come together with other apps to form an evolved interface. Content will then be the blood coursing through its veins, free and unmitigated. But for now, I feel that content is just the cheese in the mousetrap:
